Core working principle: Venturi effect
Its working principle is based on the Venturi effect in fluid mechanics:
High-pressure water generation: The high-power water pump equipped on the ship extracts a large amount of water from the water source (usually the operating waters themselves) and pressurizes it into a high-speed water flow.
High-speed injection: The high-pressure water flow passes through a special pipe (injection pipe or jet pipe) and is ejected at high speed at a narrow nozzle at the end.
Formation of negative pressure zone: The high-speed jet leaves the nozzle and enters a relatively spacious mixing chamber (or suction chamber/diffuser). According to Bernoulli's principle, the fluid flows fast and the pressure is low in a narrow place. The high-speed water flow will take away some of the air/water in the mixing chamber, thereby forming a low-pressure zone (negative pressure zone) in this area (especially near the nozzle outlet).
Sediment suction: This low-pressure area is connected to the underwater sediment area that needs to be extracted through another pipe (sand suction pipe or suction head). Since the pressure (water pressure + atmospheric pressure) at the entrance of the sand suction pipe is much higher than the low pressure in the mixing chamber, this pressure difference will force the water to be "sucked" into the mixing chamber through the sand suction pipe with the sand.
Mixing and transportation: In the mixing chamber, the high-speed water flow and the sucked sand-water mixture are violently mixed and exchanged with energy. The speed of the mixed mud is reduced, but the pressure is restored to a certain extent, and then it enters the sand conveying pipe (discharge pipe).
Mud discharge: The mud is transported to the designated discharge site through the sand conveying pipe, such as sand barges, onshore yards, filling areas or directly discharged to designated waters (must meet environmental protection requirements).
