The cutter head, located at the end of the cutter ladder, is a rotating device equipped with teeth. The cutter ladder connects the cutter head to the main body of the dredger, allowing it to reach the seabed or riverbed. The suction pipe is used to draw in the mixture of water and excavated sediment, which is then pumped through the mud pump. The discharge pipeline transports the dredged material to the designated disposal area.
The working process of a cutter suction dredger is relatively straightforward. First, the cutter head rotates at high speed, cutting and loosening the sediment on the bottom. This action breaks up the soil, turning it into a slurry of sediment and water. The mud pump, which creates a powerful suction force, then draws this slurry through the suction pipe. Once inside the pump, the slurry is pressurized and pushed through the discharge pipeline. The pipeline can be extended over long distances, either on - board or using floating hoses, to deposit the material at the required location, such as a spoil ground or a reclamation site.
