Unlike other dredgers that rely on mechanical cutting or excavation, Jet Suction Dredgers use high-pressure water jets to fluidize the seabed material, making it easier to suction and transport. This method is particularly effective in environments where the material is soft and easily displaced.
1. Working Principle
Suction system: The hull is equipped with a high-power centrifugal pump to form a vacuum in the pipeline, and the mixture of silt and water (mud) is sucked in through the suction head or auger.
Auger device (key component): The rotating auger cuts and stirs the sediment on the riverbed or seabed to suspend it for easy suction.
Transportation system: The mud is pumped to the mud discharge area (such as the reclamation area or mud transport ship) through the pipeline, and some designs can be discharged directly to the shore.

Operation
The operation of a Jet Suction Dredger begins with the positioning of the vessel at the dredging site. Once stabilized, the high-pressure water jets are activated, and the seabed material is fluidized. The dredge pump then creates a vacuum, drawing the slurry through the suction pipe and into the discharge pipeline. The material is transported to a designated location, where it is deposited.
The simplicity of the JSD's design allows for continuous operation, making it highly efficient for projects involving large volumes of loose material. The absence of mechanical cutting components also reduces wear and tear, lowering maintenance costs.
